We ran a recent mini poll to assess how readers felt about an author's on-line behaviour. Almost 90 readers responded to three questions:
Are you more likely to try new authors based on how they interact with you? 37% of the group surveyed answered "YES"
Have you stopped reading an author due to rudeness or other unacceptable behaviour? 46% said "YES"
How an author presents himself/herself or behaves does not affect your purchasing decisions - 15% of you said that an author's online interaction didn't affect you
It would seem that, based on this small survey group, an author's interaction with readers helped improve book sales. On the other hand, if the authors were perceived as being rude, 46% of the readers dropped them and stopped buying their books. Of course there's always the group who like to make surveyors work harder by not committing.:)
This survey was just for information but If you feel that the results are at all helpful it's up to you to decide how to use the data.

Interesting post -- totally in line with my own thoughts on the matter, making it even more interesting. :) It's something I think about a lot, and usually I keep my mouth shut. However, I decided to post about it this time. It's at my LJ or my blog if you're interested:

Thanks Anah.
I just went to your Lj and will be reading your post this evening.
I know I've been turned off authors who started bickering and whining in discussion rooms or on threads. I mean, hello, readers don’t always have to agree with you, and a negative review isn’t the end of the world (it sure feels like it, but it’s not).
I’m going to check out what Anah has to say about it.
